Multi-Spec Goggles
Multi-Spec Goggles
Where Nightvision Goggles leave off, Multi-Spec Goggles pick up the slack. Instead of merely amplifying light, Multi-Spec Goggles can analyze a broad spectrum of EM radiation, including Infrared, Ultraviolet, X-Ray, and the high-frequency end of Microwaves. Additionally, the goggles can emit ultraviolet or infrared light with the power of a flashlight, when there is no light at all, effectively creating a flashlight only the wearer can see. The goggles contain a microcomputer which analyzes radiation to provide exact wavelengths and amplitude measurements.
The goggles do not permit measured light into the eyes; most use cases of the goggles involving X-Rays, Microwaves, and so on require exposure to dangerous conditions, where the wearer will usually have other protective gear. Permitting such radiation into the eye would cause serious damage. Instead, the sensors are mounted as a "third eye", and the results are processed into an image displayed into the binocular lenses. As such, there is a brief delay and a slightly noticeable frame rate, compared to real-time vision.
Given some of the use cases of the goggles, they contain a small geiger counter for convenience and safety.
In game terms:
- Allows low-light vision, darkvision, or infravision to 50 m (monochrome, false color)
- Can sense microwaves, ultraviolet, and x-rays. Geiger counter detects the presence of radiation, but does not have sufficient resolution to display sources on screen.
- -2 penalty to balance, ranged attacks, and similar agility checks requiring real-time visual feedback
